■France International Highlights

The Grand Prix (GP) series of figure skating, which travels to six countries around the world, started with Skate America (October 22-24) and ended with the fourth round, NHK Cup (November 12-14). Only the France International and the sixth round, the Russia Cup (opening on November 26), remain. After that, the GP Final, which will conclude the series, will be held from December 9. The top six finishers (six pairs) of the GP series will advance to the GP Final in Osaka.

Two Japanese athletes will compete in France International, two in Men's Singles and two in Women's Singles. Yuma KAGIYAMA (Oriental Bio/Seisa) won the Men's Single at the Grand Prix of Italy (Nov. 5-7), the third round of the competition, where he was placed 7th in SP, but made a brilliant comeback in FS. At this competition, she will try to win her second gold medal in a row. Also entered in the competition are Shun Sato (Fuji Corporation), 4th in Skate America, and Shinba Higuchi (Meiji University/Noevia) and Yuhana Yokoi (Chukyo University) in Women's Singles.

One of the international contenders is Anna Scherbakova (RUS) in women's singles, a runner-up in the 2019-20 season GP Finals and a winner of the 2021 World Championships. She is also in good form, winning the GP of Italy, and is expected to do well at the Beijing Olympics coming up next year. (Source: International Olympic Committee article)
