On Saturday, October 18, and Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, Mizuki Hirai won the women’s 50m backstroke at the 67th Japanese Short Course Swimming Championships with a time of 24.95 seconds!
This time breaks the previous Japanese short-course record of 26.05 seconds set by Aya Terakawa in 2013, and marks the first time the 25-second barrier has been broken, establishing a new Japanese short-course record and a new World Junior short-course record.
